Under siege. That’s how Ryker Jones feels. The Lost Bastards Investigative Agency he opened up with his blood brothers has lost a client in a brutal way. The past he can’t outrun is resurfacing, threatening to drag him down in the undertow. And the beautiful woman he’s been trying to keep at arm’s length is in danger…and he’ll destroy anything and anyone to keep her safe.

Paralegal Zara Remington is in over her head. She’s making risky moves at work by day and indulging in an affair with a darkly dangerous PI by night. There’s a lot Ryker isn’t telling her and the more she uncovers, the less she wants to know. But when all hell breaks loose, Ryker may be the only one to save her. If his past doesn’t catch up to them first…

Review:  From the first few pages, author Rebecca Zanetti was able to capture my interest in Deadly Silence, the first book in her new suspense series.

Whether it was a glimpse into Ryker’s past or the fiery chemistry he and Zara have going, it definitely made me want to continue reading. As the first in the series, it does a great job introducing the three brothers and giving me an incentive for future installments. The author provides just enough detail for a solid foundation while maintaining a sense of anticipation.

The characters are especially well developed. It was refreshing to find a female main character as intelligent and spunky as Zara. She has her own personal demons to fight, so it’s no surprise that she is the one throwing the brakes on the relationship with Ryker.

Ryker, on the other hand, is trying to pull off an incredible juggling act with an investigation on one hand and Zara on the other. When those two areas of his life start to intersect, life gets more than a bit complicated.

Two people who may not have been looking for anything permanent find themselves in uncharted territory. I really liked the way the writer took things from Ryker’s past and connected them with the present. The end result provides not only plenty of heat as Zara and Ryker face multiple challenges, but a solid dose of suspense as well.

I’m looking forward to finding out more about Denver and Heath as the Blood Brothers series continues.
